‘Find your stakeholders and your enemies’

Mon 06 September 2010

, LEAP!, LEAP!

New ways of communicating and collaborating challenge us to rethink the current ones. Liselore Ammerlaan-van Rijn, IBM’s development manager Smart Work Practices, has some pointers and invites you to share yours. ‘Listen, but voice your opinion!’

Be aware

When you discover something that you’re passionate about, recognise it and don’t let it go. Follow through and chase what you believe in! Being moderate is not enough—if you want to excel, you need to explore what really excites you.

Seek out and share information

Don’t kid yourself that you know everything. Learn from others, but equally, don’t be afraid to share what you think. Listen but voice your opinion!

Be proactive

Find your stakeholders and find your enemies—these are the people that you can share ideas with and receive criticism from, who know that today’s idea development is far more iterative and open. If you want to achieve something, be open about potential pitfalls and problems.

Dare to change course

The world’s constantly evolving, and you need to be willing to let your ideas evolve, even when they take you off course. Be open to new thoughts about what you should do (and where you should go) and don’t worry if you don’t get everyone onboard. It only takes a few true believers.

Your views?

I’m sure you don’t all agree with everything I’ve said. So, what are your views on how to tap the potential of new ways of collaborating and communicating? Leave a comment, and let’s get sharing ideas.
