Glamour Is Served!!

Famous fashion designers are pushing their boundaries. They no longer only focus on sophisticated, elegant and trendy designer clothes, but also on design, the hotel industry and good food. Especially the latter is becoming a true trend!! Think of Prada pumps cookies and Victor & Rolf cupcakes. During the 2010 autumn fashion week McDonald branches in London, Paris, New York and Milan packed their food fashion proof, created private dining rooms and a true catwalk. Burberry burgers and Hermès french fries were served by waiters dressed up in tuxedos. But there is more…… Designers more and more start their own bar and or restaurants in Europe. In this blog I will share with you some amazing dining spots owned by Emporio Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabanna and Ralph Lauren.

Restaurant Ralph’s, Paris
Tucked away beneath the arches of the Boulevard Saint Germain in Paris, you find restaurant Ralph’s in the flagship store of Ralph Lauren. In keeping with his American heritage, Ralph Lauren has successfully blended the casual chic of the western plains with the sophisticated elegance of a formal French mansion. The mansion possesses a great garden setting for outdoor dining in the summer months and a cozy indoor restaurant designed around a magnificent limestone fireplace for dining all year round. The menu offers a selection of the designer’s favorite dishes with a traditional American accent in the plates. Choose a lobster flown fresh from Maine or a succulent Maryland crab, organic hotdogs for the kids, Black Angus beef or a choice of top of steaks raised on Ralph Lauren’s own ranch in Colorado and exclusively served at the Parisian location.

Restaurant Gold, Milan
Gold fever is back! Italian designers Dolce and Gabbana have moved on in their pursuit of Gold. They hit the jackpot with their latest venture restaurant Gold in Milan. True to its name, everything, from the stairs to the luminaries gleams in sparkling yellow hue. The restaurant sports a first floor gourmet restaurant, a ground-floor casual bistro and a small food shop that carries items from Gold’s traditional Mediterranean menu. The menu doesn't try to compete with the decor: though presentation and the mix of ingredients nod at fusion, deep down this is good old southern Italian cooking, with Sicilian, Puglian, and Calabrian influences.

Just Cavalli Café, Milan
Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli, famed for his flamboyant furs and feathers, has enabled dining out in Milan in Just Cavalli-style. The café-restaurant is an ultra modern, glass-walled Italian fushion restaurant decorated with wild animal prints, baroque crystal chandeliers, exotic flowers, mirrors and a brace of Argentinian mastiffs that treat the place like their palace. And in true fashion spirit, the fabrics are changed seasonally. In the summer the surrounding garden and first-floor terrace, with muslin-draped Balinese beds, tropical plants and parasols, are opened up when the fashion flock come for an aperitivo and today’s accessory, sushi! Packed with fashion friends of Roberto and his wife, this is the perfect early evening meeting place for a cocktail and a snack.

Armani/Nobu Restaurant, Milan
Another winner in the exclusive chain of worldwide Nobu restaurants is housed in the giant, white-stone Armani World on Via Manzoni. Waif-like models and fashionistas concerned with their waistlines can enjoy the stylish, softly lit design, whilst nibbling famous dishes like black cod in miso sauce as well as sushi and sashimi - or sipping sake with added gold leaf.

Unlike the previous mentioned restaurants in this blog, this restaurant is not owned, but decorated by Armani. However, on November 10th. 2011 Armani opened his own stylish and sophisticated Armani Hotel in Milan, featuring 95 guestrooms, a luxurious Armani spa and a gourmet restaurant. And although I didn’t have the pleasure yet of enjoying a dinner in the latter restaurant, I can imagine this restaurant to be declared the best upcoming dining spot soon!!
