Are you MOM ENOUGH to do this?

Are you MOM ENOUGH? Weird question, but Time would  like to know.
To be able to answer it however, you would first have to know what enough is. Apparently breast feeding your child till it is a 4-year old will qualify. (Arghh, at what age does  breastfeeding become incest?). The cover story of Time is all about attached parenting. Attached as in glued. To be mom enough you have to spent 24 hours glued to your child. For years! Carry them around in a sling, sleep with them in one bed and breastfeed them till they graduate. That makes you mom enough and gives your child a chance to become….become what actually? An attached child?

According to Time, attachment parenting  has been on the rise since the publication of The Baby Book by Dr. Bill Sears and his wife Martha in 1992. Did you notice? We didn’t.

Makes you wonder..even if  attached parenting would be something to strive for, who would have the luxury of practicing it? It seems to imply you have to spend your days at home. Although we did find a blog post of a female CEO who breastfed till her children were nearly 2 years old, the vast majority of women in the world doesn’t have the option to stay home or take the kids to work. If they would want to. Who does? Well, the women in the photographs for instance. Neither the woman on the cover with her 3-year old son (you must grow very fast if you have an attached mom) nor the other women in the photographs, are models. They are for real.

Photographer Martin Schoeller’s captured various attached parents  from across the country. “It was important to show that there’s no stereotypical look for a mom who practices this kind of parenting,” Schoeller says about the goal of his pictures on TimeLightbox.

No stereotypes. Anyone can be one. Please send us pictures of attached dads if you meet them.
